Welcome to BI-Bits

BI-Bits is a “business intelligence” (BI) blog.

At some point, while discovering business intelligence, one must ask, “What is Business Intelligence (BI)?”

The Data Warehousing Institute defines business intelligence as the following:

“The Processes, technologies, and tools needed to turn data into information,

information into knowledge, and knowledge into plans that drive profitable

business action. Business intelligence encompasses data warehousing,

business analytic tools, and content/knowledge management.”

                                                                                                (Faculty Newsletter, Fall 2002)

This blog will explore topics relating to both the managerial, business strategy perspective as well as a technical, road warrior perspective of business intelligence. My background as an MBA student combined with over 15 years experience working in information technology (IT), allow me to present business intelligence in a technical capacity while providing compelling business insights that allow information technology along with business intelligence to align the organizational strategy with the information technology, business intelligence strategy.

Over the life of this blog, I will categorize my writings into the following (ever-expanding) list of categories:

  • Analytics
    • Behavior Analysis
    • Business Productivity Analysis
    • Customer Analytics
    • Human Capital Productivity Analytics
    • Sales Channel Analytics
    • Supply Chain Analytics
  • Business Intelligence Strategy
  • Dashboards
  • Portals
  • SQL Server
    • SSAS
    • SSIS
    • SSRS
    • T-SQL
  • Technical Communication
  • General

On a more personal note, this blog is sponsored by my consulting firm named the RPC Group. Please feel free to visit this sister website to learn about my business, services, and resume.

I am excited to bring BI-Bits to the world wide web. My intension is to write at least one blog a week that I will publish every Monday morning, starting with this inaugural blog on June 28, 2010. As the blog gains a readership, I may decide to increase the blog interval by writing more blogs, or inviting fellow experts to share their views and ideas on the topic of business intelligence.

I want to thank everyone in advance for taking the time to visit and read my blog. As this is my first entry, I can only hope and imagine the possibility of gaining an involved and interested readership. I am looking forward to sharing and collaborating on many topics over the life of this blog.
